Courses, certifications, and workshops
Rx Cafe Chiang Mai is dedicated to providing the best possible education about coffee that we can. To do this we have partnered with the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute (ISDSI), Bloss Coffee, and the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). If you’re interested in a course or want to know more, email us at email@example.com!
We are currently offering professional courses on coffee, with the option of SCA certification. In addition, we have a month long university level course on coffee in collaboration with ISDSI.
The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) is a non-profit organization that represents thousands of coffee professionals, to equip and facilitate excellence in coffee. Administered by the SCA and taught by Authorized SCA Trainers (ASTs) around the globe, the Coffee Skills Program (CSP) offers education for every stage of your coffee career, and is open to both coffee professional and nonprofessionals.
Introduction to Coffee
Learn about coffee’s journey from its origins in Ethiopia to the major commodity it is today. From growing the cherries through grading, roasting, and brewing, this module provides an overview of the coffee value chain.
The Barista Skills courses provide training in the barista skills discipline and is a great way to get insight into the role of a barista. The Foundation course level requires no previous experience, but will give you the standard practical skills you need behind the espresso bar: learn how to set your grinder, simple milk techniques and more foundational skills needed in a coffee shop. The Intermediate and Professional level courses go into more advanced barista skills, and are a challenging way to develop yourself professionally.
The Brewing Foundation course provides a first taste of coffee brewing principles and is a great way to understand the foundations of brewing standards for speciality coffee. This course will give you hands-on learning to ground you in the techniques of a variety of methods for brewing coffee and the brewing variables that affect quality. Intermediate and Professional courses go deeper into advanced brewing and brewing skills.
The Green Coffee Foundation course provides a first look at green coffee production and processing and is a great way to understand the foundations of green coffee standards for speciality coffee. This course examines at all the steps involved in getting speciality green coffee into the coffee supply chain, what creates quality and so much more. Intermediate and Professional courses go into more detail and depth on green coffee.
The Roasting Foundation course provides a first taste of coffee roasting, it is a great way to understand the basic principles in roasting speciality coffee. This course focuses on the roasting process, you will roast several batches, and have hand-on experience to identifying the changes the beans undergo during roasting. Intermediate and Professional levels go into more depth on the chemistry and science of roasting high end specialty coffee.
The Sensory Skills Foundation course provides a first taste of sensory skills needed within the speciality coffee industry. You will learn about the essentials of sensory evaluation in a practical and interactive way. You'll acquire foundational skills to build on as you learn to identify, describe and measure quality within the world of coffee flavour. Intermediate and Professional levels further develop you skills in understanding quality and flavour in specialty coffee.

Bean to cup university course
Are you interested in a month long immersion in coffee? From Bean to Cup: Coffee Ecology, Production, and Consumption is open to college students and others. Taught with our partner the International Sustainable Development Studies Institute, this course is a deep dive into coffee farming, production, cafe operations, and of course brewing coffee and barista skills.
